Allied Health Assistant (Audiology), Nelson Hospital, Fixed term Part-time

About the Role

As an Allied Health Assistant, you will work under supervision of a registered health professional to provide safe, efficient, and effective clinical care in -

The hours are Monday to Friday between 7.30AM to 5.00PM, up to 24 hours per fortnight (0.3 FTE). This is a fixed term role for 6 months with the possibility of being extended.

Please note this position is primarily based in Nelson but flexibility to support the Wairau base as needed will be appreciated.

About the Team/Service/ Location

You will work under the supervision of and be supported by Audiologists in a multidisciplinary approach to patient centred care.  Training will be provided in checking, performing minor repairs and troubleshooting of hearing aids, and in working effectively with Audiologists to improve hearing and communication in patients when problems are identified.  Under the guidance of experienced Audiologists, you will play an important role in ensuring patients and their family and whānau are effectively engaged in their own care, enabling shared decision making between the patient and other health providers.

About you

As an Allied Health Assistant, you will be adaptable, practical, well-organised and physically fit person with life experience, good computer skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.You will have a friendly and welcoming manner with the abilityto relate to a broad range of people of all ages. It will also be crucial that you can work with direction and delegation processes, be a cooperative team player who is supportive of your colleagues, and work in flexible, positive manner displaying an appropriate level of initiative.

A Home Carer Certificate, or equivalent, and/or experience within the health sector is preferred but is not essential as full training will be provided.

It - s essential that you have:

  • Year 11 - NCEA Level 1 English and Maths (or equivalent),
  • a current full driver - s licence,
  • the NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, if not previously obtained, this is to be completed within 2 years of commencement, or to be commenced within your first year of employment.
