About the role

As a seasoned policy professional, the focus of your role will be to help create innovative, consumer-focused policy solutions to ensure Aotearoa's electricity sector works the best for consumers. You will work on a variety of interesting projects and engage directly with sector participants and senior leadership at the Authority. You will lead to projects aimed at improving the performance of the wholesale electricity market, ensuring consumers have access to reliable power at the lowest possible cost. Our projects include initiatives to strengthen competition, encourage investment in new generation, improve access to risk management tools for managing price volatility, and provide more accurate and timely price signals.

Our ideal candidates:

  • A relevant qualification in public policy, law or economics, finance, engineering or business
  • Prior experience in in a policy or regulatory role
  • A proven track record of producing high quality work
  • Stakeholder management experience in Government and/or industry
  • An understanding of the relationships between the different parts of the electricity industry, including the likely incentives/drivers on participants is desirable but not necessary

Are you someone with the following?

  • Public sector and/or industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of competition policy and/or industry regulation
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
