We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Accountant to join the Electoral Commission's finance team in a 6 month fixed term role or secondment. This role supports the financial operations of the Commission, ensuring accurate and efficient financial processes.
You will be responsible for accounts processing, reconciliations, financial reporting, and supporting the wider finance team with the audit process. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their accounting career in a meaningful organisation.
The salary band for this role is $58,338 - $64,820.
Primary deliverables for the Assistant Accountant include:
- Processing accounts payable and receivable transactions.
- Completing bank and account reconciliations.
- Assisting with month-end and year-end financial reporting.
- Ensuring financial compliance with internal policies and government regulations.
- Assisting with audits and financial analysis as required.
Mōhou ake | About you
- To be successful in this role, you must have:
- A tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1-3 years' experience in accounts or
- Strong understanding of financial principles and accounting standards.
- Experience using accounting software (e.g., Xero, SAP, or similar).
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with great attention to detail.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively in a team and build strong relationships.
- A proactive and adaptable approach to problem-solving.
- Payroll and Holidays Act experience would be an advantage
