  • Permanent, Fulltime 80 hours per fortnight
  • Based across two locations and may include travel across the district
  • This is a new exciting role focusing on supporting the integration of a new service model, Oranga Rangatira in collaboration with the leadership team.

About the Role

The ACNM/ATL will work in close collaboration with the existing charge nurse manager (CNM) to manage and provide leadership support across the team. As the successful candidate, you will provide continued clinical coordination and expertise to enable an effective practice environment.  You will have delegated ongoing responsibilities from the CNM and provide direct care as required and clinical leadership for staff with coaching and supervision.

Key responsibilities:

  •  Mental Health and Addictions Service in the Waikato are implementing transformation change to be a Māori led service. You will need to be able to embrace these changes and to support the implementation of a Māori led service within the team and the wider service.
  • Work with the Charge Nurse Manager/Team Leader to support and lead a well-functioning mental health and addictions community team.
  • To be committed to understanding the needs of the communities that we work in and building networks within them.
  • To have sound decision making skills especially in high pressure situations.

About the Team

The service has been named Oranga Rangatira to reflect the mana-enhancing intention. Note that ‘oranga’ in the general sense covers wellbeing, welfare, survival, health and living. The main description for a Rangatira is a first born or high ranking of a senior family in an iwi. However, the characteristics of a Rangatira includes utilising te reo Māori, tikanga, accessing marae, wahi tapu and access to whānau, hapu and iwi. These are all skills that will be offered to whānau under Te Ao Māori, to lift and build their identities, confidence and skills. 

This will be an integrated service that is offered to tāngata whaiora in the community and within a residential unit. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team (clinical and non-clinical roles) that fosters a culture of mutual respect, safe practice and acknowledges contributions from both cultural and clinical perspectives.

Part of your role will be to support mana whenua to exercise their kaitiakitanga and manākitanga obligations within the context of the service.

About you

  • Competency with Te Ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in upholding Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
  • A relevant graduate qualification and registration with relevant professional body.
  • Experience with community networking and managing inter-sectoral relationships/partnerships.
  • Have a passion for making a difference to the lives of tāngata whaiora and whānau.
  • Display initiative and resourcefulness that will allow you to navigate the variety of challenges you could face.
  • This is a challenging, diverse role which requires creativity, reliability and exceptional organisational skills.
