Biosecurity Support Officer

Role type: Fixed term full-time until July 2026

Location: Christchurch

Salary band & range: General Salary Range – H $60,750 to $63,946 dependent on skills and experience 

 

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

You will be part of the Biosecurity Support Team which provide business support to the Border Clearance Managers and front line staff as well as covering the main reception area.

Some of your core day to day duties will involve the following:

  • Reception responsibilities
  • Data entry and administration
  • Managing a team email inbox and responding to emails
  • Travel bookings
  • Processing invoices and ordering goods
  • Assisting with other Operational Support functions

 

This is an office-based role with set hours: Monday – Friday 8.00am – 4.30pm.

 

About You - Mōu

You will be someone who thrives in complex or ambiguous environments and strong on systems, processes, and relationships.

You will bring the following:

  • Knowledge and experience in administration and business support systems and processes
  • A drive to deliver an exceptional customer experience in every interaction
  • Effective communication, questioning and listening skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise across multiple stakeholders
  • Experience within the MS Suite
  • A high level of organizational skills, the ability to deliver on time and solve problems as they arise.
  • A clean criminal record

 

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū

Biosecurity Support is dedicated team who take pride in providing operational and logistical support to various directorates within Biosecurity New Zealand. You will be part of a small team of Support Officers within the Christchurch MPI office.

Biosecurity New Zealand has a critical role in preventing harmful organisms crossing New Zealand's borders.  It manages border and compliance activities as well as preparing for, and responding to, any biosecurity incursions that may occur. This business unit also manages MPI's centralised intelligence, planning and co-ordination group which was established to manage food, biosecurity and animal welfare response consistently and effectively.
