Job Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

  • Children’s Community Nurse Specialist – Waitākere and North Shore
  • Expression of Interest – Permanent part-time/full time positions
  • Opportunity to work in a community setting

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

We are seeking expressions of interest from experienced paediatric nurses who would like the opportunity to work in a community setting in the role of Children’s Community Nurse Specialist within our Community Child Health Teams based at Waitakere Hospital and Shea Terrace, North Shore.

Our Children’s Community Nurse Specialists provide advanced nursing practice within an interdisciplinary team to promote safety, independence and self-care for whānau who have pēpi/tamariki with complex health needs in the home.

In this role, you will be visiting tamariki and whānau in their homes to provide specialist nursing care within a case management model to support a variety of paediatric health conditions such as acute/chronic/ complex medical cares, neonatal care and wound management. Your ability to work autonomously in the community – to advocate, consult and collaborate – would be well utilised in this senior nursing role.

In return, we offer you a great opportunity to be a part of an area of specialised nursing practice and be supported in a full programme of orientation and supervision. You will have flexibility and autonomy in your work, as part of a small but supportive team of paediatric clinical nurse specialists who work across the full week Monday to Sunday – so say good-bye to afternoon or night shifts.

About Us

The Children’s Community Nurse Specialists form part of the larger Community Child Health Teams, working alongside their Allied Health peers, from either the Waitakere Hospital site or Shea Terrace, North Shore. Our staff have close, supportive working relationships within the teams – respecting the value each has to offer in supporting the care of the child and whānau at home - as well as strong connections across Child Health services within Waitematā and regionally.

Our nurses work together using a locality model to maintain consistency in care for families and to support local connections and knowledge of areas. Home visiting is arranged from base within the coverage area localised to each of the two teams.

  • a minimum of 5 years’ experience in paediatric nursing (preferably in a NZ Health Care setting), including acute paediatrics
  • a PG Diploma in a specialty nursing practice (or working towards this)
  • a current APC and NZ drivers’ licence

If you are ready for a challenging and rewarding opportunity within a community setting, then this could be the opportunity for you.
