 About the role

An opportunity has come up for an enthusiastic and innovative nurse to join a dynamic nursing team as a Clinical Charge Nurse.

The purpose of this position is to -

  • Lead the Neonatal Homecare nursing team (operational/professional) to provide ongoing neonatal nursing care for pēpi/whānau after discharge to home until transfer to primary health services.
  • Be part of the Newborn Service MDT as well as develop and maintain strong relationships with Starship community nursing teams.
  • Advocate for whānau to care for their pēpi at home whenever it is safe to do so.

The role works collaboratively with CCNs in NICU, Clinical Midwife Specialist in Whitinga Ora Pēpi and Charge Midwives to promote discharge from hospital to home for babies who require neonatal nursing care. In the community there is ongoing collaboration with Well Child and Whānau Ora teams.

About the Team

This CCN position is based in the Newborn Service at Starship Child Health, Auckland.

 Neonatal Homecare is a specialist home nursing service for babies discharged home from Starship Newborn Services. The primary purpose of the service is to support the transition from hospital to home for babies born very preterm or require ongoing support after in-patient care in NICU. This includes the following

  • practical advice and assessment of growth and development
  • Feeding difficulties
  • Overseeing babies requiring ongoing medical care for example, low flow oxygen, Long term nasogastric feeding, SBR monitoring, palliative care

 About you

To be successful in this role you will

  • Have NZ Nursing Council registration with a current Annual Practising Licence
  • Have expert clinical practice
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience post registration in a tertiary neonatal unit
  • Have obtained the appropriate post-graduate qualification or be working towards completion of Masters Degree
  • Have a strong commitment to leading professional development, quality care and whānau centred nursing
  • Have a strong interest in growing and developing teams and providing leadership

Ideally, you will have completed or working towards a post-graduate qualification and have experience in Neonatal Intensive Care as a senior staff nurse.
