Contract: Permanent, Part Time 0.9 FTE

About the Role 

Work with people with diabetes across the lifespan, providing specialist nursing management and expert self-management teaching. Specific components of this role include:

  • Leading the implementation of the local insulin pump service
  • Conducting nurse-led clinics
  • A strong focus on teaching new and emerging technologies to improve quality of life for people with type one diabetes in particular. 
  • Leading development of diabetes specialist pathways, protocols, and guidelines
  • Supporting and collaborating with internal and external providers to improve patient outcomes
  • Acting as an expert resource for the MDT
  • A career pathway leading to CNS Prescriber

About the Team/Service Location 

The Endocrine, Diabetes and Research Centre at Capital and Coast and Hutt Valley provides specialist services targeting assessment and complex clinical management of high risk individuals with Diabetes. The Specialist nursing team receives and supports high risk children, young adults, adults, and pregnant women with diabetes to improve outcomes and quality of life, within a strong nurse-led case management model. There is a strong out-reach dimension with clinics based at other facilities including Kenepuru Hospital and Kapiti Health Centre. The team supports primary providers in the region by offering consultation and advice to manage complex cases that are referred to them.

About you 

  • You will have a current APC
  • Have completed at least two post graduate papers towards achieving Designated Prescriber
  • RN Expert or Senior on PDRP
  • Have completed up to section 10 of the National Diabetes Nursing Knowledge and Skills Framework
  • At least 3 years of specialist diabetes nursing experience
