Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are looking for a Licensing Officer to join our Commercial Licensing team. In this role you will use your professional judgement, keen eye for detail and robust decision-making skills to assess the fitness and propriety of individuals and organisations applying to operate in the commercial transport space.

You'll handle complex inquiries and make risk-based assessments aligned to NZTA's regulatory framework. Responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing applications in our workflow system and supporting Senior Commercial Licensing Officers
  • Collecting and recording information to a high standard, carrying out intelligence led, risk-based assessments in line with our Regulatory strategy and our legislative guidelines
  • Managing your time effectively to ensure applications are assessed within a timely manner
  • Communicating with the public, regulated parties and other business groups within NZTA and demonstrating our values and behaviours

This is a varied and fast-paced role where there is scope to learn and develop your skills as a regulator! There is plenty of opportunity to grow in this role within NZTA.

We are seeking to appoint at a salary between $61,843 to $82,457 commensurate to skills and experience.

The Safer Commercial Transport team is responsible for regulating commercial transport operators: from heavy vehicles to small passenger services. We do this by monitoring our sector through audits, reviews and investigations and working with industry to drive best practice. The team regulates transport operators that have been licensed to operate as a transport service.
