We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Community Mental Health Professional (CMHP) to join our dynamic team on the West Coast. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of individuals and their whānau in a beautiful and unique part of Aotearoa.
About the Role
As a CMHP, you will provide safe, evidence-based, and culturally appropriate
mental health care in alignment with Health NZ Te Whatu Ora - Te Tai o Poutini
West Coast - s values. This includes:
- Managing a caseload, completing assessments, risk management, and recovery-focused treatment planning
- Providing triage, crisis intervention, and brief interventions
- Undertaking duties under the Mental Health Act as a Duly Authorised Officer (training provided if not current)
- Collaborating with service users, whānau, and interprofessional teams to support recovery and wellbeing
- Contributing to the achievement of equitable health outcomes for Māori and rural populations
You will also be responsible for:
- Ensuring professional, legal, and ethical standards are met
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and data security
- Demonstrating accountability and leadership in clinical decision-making
- Supporting culturally safe and inclusive care for tangata whenua and all service users
About you
Essential:
- New Zealand Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional (e.g., Social Worker, Occupational Therapist)
- Current Annual Practising Certificate
- A relevant postgraduate qualification
- Minimum of three years - experience in mental health
- Strong understanding of cultural safety and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Full New Zealand driver - s licence (manual transmission preferred)
- Competence using electronic health systems and clinical documentation platforms
Desirable:
- Current DAO warrant (or willingness to complete training)
- CEP (Co-Existing Problems) capability
- Experience with talking therapies or brief interventions
- Familiarity with West Coast community resources
- If a Registered Nurse, a current portfolio as part of the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP)
