About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Consultant Paediatrician to join our team for 12 months at our Capital,Coast and Hutt Valley District.

We are seeking cover for a combination of Child Development and General Paediatric roles which includes working at least 0.5 FTE in the Puketiro (Kenepuru) Child Development Service and up to 0.5 FTE in General Paediatrics across Wellington and Hutt Valley Hospitals, including the Paediatric on-call roster and Gateway assessments.

The available position offers a variety of work but can be tailored to suit experience - we would be happy to consider applications for the Child Development or General Paediatric part only and FTE can be adjusted due to the flexible nature of the role.

As well as joining a dynamic service and collegial team, you must be willing and able assist with the supervision and instruction of junior medical staff within the service.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our service provides a wide range of secondary and tertiary services for the children of the region across four sites: Wellington Children - s Hospital; Kenepuru Hospital, Kapiti Health Centre and Hutt Hospital.

Te Wao Nui, the new name for our integrated Child Health Service, opened in October 2022 and brings child health services under one roof, allowing for the integration of inpatient and outpatient services, as well as encouraging clinical collaboration and communication. Two inpatient wards at Wellington Children - s Hospital, split by medical care (including the Paediatric Oncology Service) and surgical care (including the adolescent service) comprise resourced inpatient cots/beds for 60 infants, children and young people.

Kenepuru Community Hospital and Kapiti Health Centre provide secondary and community services based in Porirua and the Kapiti Coast.

Hutt Hospital is the centre for five tertiary regional and sub-regional services - Plastics, Maxillofacial and Burns Services; Rheumatology; Dental Services; Regional Public Health; and Regional (Breast and Cervical) Screening Services. Paediatricians based there cover Paediatric admissions and the level 2 SCBU and deliveries.

Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals -  Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua  - as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

About you

  • Vocationally registered in paediatrics with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) 
  • FRACP or equivalent qualification or able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
