About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant (SMO) to join our Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes team.

This is a regional role based within our integrated Child Health Services, which span Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley, and Wairarapa districts. The position offers the option to include general paediatrics, depending on the candidate - s interest and experience.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide specialist outpatient care in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes
  • Offer inpatient consultation and advice
  • Support regional colleagues through clinical guidance and shared care when required

You - ll be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality, family-centred care to infants, children, and young people (from birth to 15 years) across diverse communities. Our service model includes inpatient, outpatient, day patient, and community-based care, with a strong focus on equity and collaboration.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Te Wao Nui, the new name for our integrated Child Health Service, opened in October 2022 and brings child health services under one roof, allowing for the integration of inpatient and outpatient services, as well as encouraging clinical collaboration and communication. Two inpatient wards at Wellington Children - s Hospital, split by medical care (including the Paediatric Oncology Service) and surgical care (including the adolescent service) comprise resourced inpatient cots/beds for 60 infants, children and young people.

Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals -  Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua  - as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

About you

  • Vocationally registered in Paediatrics with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) OR
  • FRACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration in Paediatrics with the MCNZ
  • Relevant experience and training Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
