Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the team

The Information Service and Delivery team provides Maritime NZ with technology infrastructure and a secure environment which enables the knowledge of the organisation to be leveraged for the benefit of users.

The group plays a key role in setting the future direction for platforming business applications and technical infrastructure, effectively delivering the appropriate architecture through a combination of operational and project work.

Te tūnga | The role 

The Data Engineer is responsible for managing the overall maintenance and support of Maritime NZ's data platforms, working with multiple teams and analysts to provide backend data that feeds into our Power BI platform.

Nōu te rourou | What you bring

  • Extensive experience in data engineering, with a strong track record of implementing cloud-based data solutions
  • Proven expertise in Snowflake, including:
    • Understanding of Snowflake architecture (virtual warehouses, storage/compute separation, micro-partitioning)
    • Building automated ingestion with Snowpipe and external stages
    • Using Streams and Tasks for CDC (Change Data Capture) and automation
  • Proficiency in SQL, data modelling (star/snowflake schema), and data warehousing best practices
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI, including DAX, dataflows, and large dataset management
  • Experience with data governance, privacy, and compliance in cloud data platforms is desirable
  • Familiarity with spatial data tools (e.g., ArcGIS) and integrating geospatial datasets is desirable

Salary range $117,555 to $143,316 depending on skills and experience + superannuation.
