Join NZ Customs as a Data Tester and embark on an exciting journey! This role is a full-time permanent position based in our Wellington Customhouse. 

About this role…

Reporting to the Product Manager, Information and Data, this is a critical role which ensures high quality reporting platform releases. In this role, you will lead testing operations for the Data and Information Team. This includes the development and operation of testing solutions and the management of product releases. 

The Data Tester will work closely with the Product Manager and other members of the product team to understand the technology roadmap, develop testing methods, and ensure data quality. 

To be successful in this role the following knowledge, experience, skills and personal attributes are required… 

  • 5 years+ of experience in all aspects of data testing.
  • Ability to navigate and leverage PySpark notebooks and Azure DevOps.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Fabric or Power BI lifecycle management.
  • Understanding of industry best practices and approach differences when releasing to different environments within and SDLC and via a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Experience working within an agile enterprise reporting team.
  • Experience working in a cross-skilled agile software team. Including a demonstrated ability to influence a team to adopt an improvement.
  • Fabric or Power BI report development experience. 

Qualifications… 

  • A tertiary qualification at least equivalent to Bachelors level e.g. BSC or comparable. 

Working for New Zealand Customs… 

To join Customs in any role you must be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident* and be able to obtain and maintain an Organisational Security clearance. A national security clearance to a confidential level is required for this position.

(*) A New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last five years, (including five years ago from the date of this application) and resides in New Zealand at time of application.

OR

A New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last five years, (including five years ago from the date of this application) and resides in New Zealand at time of application who has travelled out of New Zealand for short periods of time i.e. > 6 months in one of the following countries: Australia, United Kingdom, United States or Canada and can provide police certificates from those countries for the period of absence.

Because of the nature of Customs' work you must have a clear Police record. Organisational security clearances are mandatory and are conducted by Customs.  You will also be required to pass a drug test.

You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
