The Government of Tokelau invites qualified and experienced persons to apply for the position of Director of Energy. The position offers the opportunity to lead the strategic direction and daily operations of the Department of Energy. The Director will be pivotal in overseeing Tokelau's power management infrastructure, ensuring it effectively supports development initiatives across sectors such as fisheries, public administration, economic growth and especially the people of Tokelau.
Applicants should demonstrate how they meet the following selection criteria:
▪ Minimum of a tertiary qualification (preferably degree level) or equivalent in an energy-related field such as electrical, mechanical, environmental engineering or sciences from a recognised tertiary institution.
▪ Minimum of seven years strategic leadership and management experience in developing energy strategy, utilization and sustainability initiatives.
▪ Strong background in project management and technology transfer.
▪ Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of energy systems, energy efficiency and consumption.
▪ Proven ability and confidence in building and maintaining strong working relationships with both local and international stakeholders on energy related projects.
▪ Demonstrated capacity as a motivational and consultative leader, setting a positive example for others.
▪ Strong planning, organisational skills and strategic thinking capabilities.
▪ An effective team player exhibiting a high level of self-motivation, integrity, and the personal discipline to effectively work under minimal supervision.
▪ Proven ability to develop and manage services effectively within budgetary constraints while achieving agreed-upon outcomes.
▪ Willingness to reside in an isolated island community.
▪ Excellent knowledge and a thorough understanding of energy needs and systems of a small island state such as Tokelau.
The successful appointee will be offered a three-year contract and will be based in Tokelau. The annual salary will be determined according to the Tokelau Public Service Remuneration Framework 2024.
