About the role

We are looking for a dynamic and respected nurse leader to provide strong, visible, professional and operational leadership as we continue through a period of transformational change across our health system. This is a senior leadership position reporting to the Southland site General Manager and the District Chief Nurse. You will be at the forefront of driving contemporary models of nursing practice, supporting strategic and operational initiatives, and ensuring optimal patient and whānau outcomes. You will be working closely with the wider interprofessional leadership team to ensure our services are always at the top of their game, driving clinical excellence and inspiring teams. Your passion for equitable, patient-focused care and your broad understanding of healthcare systems will be crucial in leading and shaping the future of nursing across the Southland site with strong relationships across the Southern district.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide professional and operational nursing leadership and direction across the Southland site
  • Foster an environment that puts the patient and whānau first and recognises the health continuum across the system
  • Champion the development of contemporary models of care and interprofessional practice in partnership with senior colleagues
  • Drive operational performance focusing on quality, efficiency, safety, staffing, and patient flow
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Southland senior nursing team aligned with organisational values and priorities
  • Enhance professional nursing governance and contribute to excellence in practice, accountability and professional conduct
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and promote a patient-centred approach
  • Represent nursing perspectives in governance, clinical, and management forums

About you

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • NZ Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Master's qualification or equivalent (or evidence of working towards completion)
  • Extensive senior nursing leadership/management experience with exemplary knowledge of clinical quality and best practice
  • A drive for excellence, with resilience and adaptability in the face of change
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team members towards a common vision
  • Exceptional relationship building skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
