About Our Team:

Our Emergency Department handles approximately 46,000 attendances annually, with a 30% admission rate and a notable volume of major trauma cases. The department boasts four observation unit beds. With a focus on high patient acuity and significant trauma cases, our department provides a stimulating environment for professional growth. Joining a seasoned team of 16 Emergency Medicine Physicians, 15 Registrars, 8 House Officers and 4 Nurse Practitioners.

Accredited as a tier 2 non-major referral site for training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (24 months ED training), offering a structured teaching program and ample learning opportunities.

We can offer suitably qualified advanced trainees a 3 month Anaesthetic rotation after completing a minimum of 6 months in the Emergency Department.  There is also the potential for advanced trainees to rotate through Intensive Care Medicine, Paediatrics or Medicine, by application.  For further information regarding ACEM training opportunities please contact the DEMT Rebekah Bennett at rebekah.bennett@hbdhb.govt.nz. 

About You:

Our ideal candidate:

  • Suitable for Resident Medical Officers PGY3 and ideally have completed at least a six month placement working in an Emergency Department at Registrar level.
  • Applicants must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
