The Harbormasters' Office is a 24/7 operation and has significant interaction with the community. This role engages daily with the community, providing advice, information and public confidence in the work we do.
The purpose of this role is to work collaboratively with the Harbourmaster and Deputy Harbourmaster to ensure maritime safety on Lake Taupō.
To be successful in this role you will:
- Promote, educate and enforce compliance with navigational safety bylaws, maritime rules and Lake Taupō regulations
- Engage with the public in our local community and region to increase awareness of the Harbourmaster role
- Provide support as appropriate to Harbourmaster staff.

Experience:
- Proven experience in regular interactions with the public
- Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of maritime legislation, rules and regulations.
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Negotiation and mediation skills with the ability to successfully resolve conflict
- Highly developed problem-solving skills
- Excellent judgement and decision-making skills
Other requirements:
- No criminal record/ qualify under the 'Clean Slate Legislation 2004'
- Current Workplace First Aid qualification
- Strong experience in conflict resolution/management
- Availability during the peak season
- SRL a bonus
