General salary range band G: $67,658 to $85,000 depending on skills and experience
About the Role – Kōrero mō te Tūranga
Be the vital support to two Directors in Biosecurity New Zealand and streamline high-impact administrative processes. Shape critical systems and processes as you learn the inner workings of New Zealand's Biosecurity system.
In the role, you will:
- partner with Directors to provide tailored administrative and secretarial support
- manage diaries, information flows, calls, and correspondence with precision
- coordinate meetings, capture minutes, and follow up actions
- liaise with Ministerial offices and stakeholders to maintain strong networks
- identify and implement process improvements across the Directorates
About You – Mōu
You have strong administration skills, curiosity for science, and confidence managing numerical and financial tasks in a dynamic environment.
You excel at planning complex schedules and thrive working collaboratively across diverse teams. importantly you will have clear written communication, able to draft concise briefings, reports and advanced planning skills while juggling competing priorities with ease.
You will be someone with the ability to collaborate across teams to build strong stakeholder relationships, using an innovative mindset to spot and drive process improvements. Additionally, you will have basic financial literacy and comfort handling budgets and reports.

About the Team – Mō tō mātou Rōpū
You will join two dynamic leadership teams led by the Directors alongside Group Managers, , Principal Advisers and Technical Leaders. You will be supporting the Diagnostics, Surveillance and Readiness Directorate, and Strategy, Performance and Treaty Partnerships Directorate in Biosecurity New Zealand.
The Diagnostics, Surveillance and Readiness Directorate plays a critical role in detecting and identifying exotic pests and diseases early, leading investigations into suspected biosecurity threats, and ensuring New Zealand is prepared to respond to biosecurity incursions through strategic planning, capability development, and stakeholder engagement.
The Strategy, Performance and Treaty Partnerships Directorate works across the Biosecurity NZ business unit . It supports the Deputy Director-General and wider BNZ Leadership Team through aligning strategy development, implementation and planning, performance measurement, governance and reporting.
