The Local Government Commission is an independent statutory body established to make decisions on the structure of local government and to report on local government matters to the Minister of Local Government.
The Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic and intellectual leadership to the Commission ensuring effective and timely advice is provided to support their independent decision-making and functions.
To be effective the Executive Director will establish and maintain a strong working relationship with the Local Government Commission's Chair and members. You will be adept at navigating the challenges of maintaining the Local Government Commission's independence whilst drawing on your knowledge of government priorities and processes to provide practical and pragmatic advice.
The Executive Director will have excellent relationship management skills and build strong relationships with key local government stakeholders. You will bring a comprehensive knowledge of how local government works and ideally, decision making systems and representation arrangements for local authorities. Experience working with or supporting an independent statutory function would be desirable.
The Executive Director will support the growth and development of the LGC team to undertake the work necessary to ensure the Commissioners are well supported to discharge their statutory role.
The Executive Director is employed by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) to work for the Local Government Commission.
