At the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) | Te Pā Whakamarumaru, we are dedicated to our mission of keeping Aotearoa New Zealand and our people safe and secure. We collect and analyse intelligence and security concerns to protect New Zealand from threats such as foreign interference, espionage and terrorism.

The role:

The Field Intelligence Officer is a unique operational liaison role which is primarily focused on external agency engagement, as well as management of our intelligence collection capability. This is a dynamic role where your day could change at the drop of a hat It will see you engaging with private and public sector stakeholders, as well as members of the public, to deliver on operational outcomes and contribute to the success of our mission.

This role sits within small, tight knit team, where people are trusted and enabled to do their jobs. It will provide you with valuable exposure to operational capability across the organisation and you will very quickly understand the "why" behind what we do.

The ideal candidate

You will be a highly effective influencer who is confident building and maintaining successful relationships and liaising with a wide range of people. As this role involves ambiguity, complexity and risk, often in dynamic situations, it is important to have:

  • Sound judgement and ability to quickly evaluate and assess a person or situation
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills - an ability to find innovative solutions
  • Experience identifying and managing risk
  • Great planning and organisation skills; good at juggling priorities
  • High levels of initiative and self-motivation
  • A strong willingness to work collaboratively and be a team player

This is a role where your day could change at the drop of a hat, so you must have the ability to pivot and be flexible. 

Due to the operational environment we work in, there may occasionally be a requirement to travel and work after-hours.

The starting salary for this position is within the range of $73,684 - $92,851 dependent on experience. This is a multi-level position and allows for future career progression.

Before you apply

Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.

You must:

  • Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years

OR

Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years

  • Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
    • Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
