Job Description

Experienced accountant to lead billing, month-end and clean-up. Needs strong Excel, sharp thinking, and confidence to work without a handover.

The company
This organisation is entering a phase of growth and refinement, with a strong focus on building reliable processes and improving financial visibility. With a pragmatic and forward-thinking CFO in place, finance is being positioned to provide clearer insights and stronger support to the wider business.

This contract role has been designed to provide critical support to the CFO while a permanent appointment is recruited. You’ll lead month-end, billing, and reporting activity, guide two junior team members, and bring structure and momentum to key finance processes during this transitional period.

What you will be doing

  • Lead monthly billing and revenue recognition for a single, large, complex contract
  • Own the month-end process end-to-end, including journals, accruals, balance sheet recs, and IRD filings
  • Deliver variance analysis and budget insights, working across the business as needed
  • Be the finance go-to for interpreting payroll reports (think unions, allowances, and overtime)
  • Clean up messy workpapers and rebuild robust reporting templates
  • Mentor and oversee two transactional finance staff
  • Take ownership and run with tasks—there’s minimal handover, and you’ll be expected to find your way with support from a pragmatic and approachable CFO
What You’ll Bring
  • CA-qualified (or equivalent) with solid technical accounting capability
  • Strong Excel skills (pivots, lookups, data manipulation)
  • Experience with Dynamics 365
  • Hands-on experience with payroll interpretation and headcount costing
  • Comfortable working in a lean, pragmatic team
  • Clear communicator who can push back when needed, work around ambiguity, and make sound calls
You’ll Thrive Here If You…
  • Like variety and aren’t afraid of getting stuck in
  • Are confident picking things up with limited hand over
  • Want a role where you can make a noticeable impact from day one
Ideally we are looking for someone who can start within two weeks.
