About the Company
Our client, a major infrastructure company, is leading the delivery of some of New Zealand's most important infrastructure programmes. With the Government's policy to fund more infrastructure, that will improve the daily lives of New Zealanders, it is exciting this business has been chosen to play a crucial role.

It's no wonder the Finance team is buzzing knowing they have job security but also their work is important for improving New Zealand's infrastructure.

The Finance team is impressive and this is a fantastic opportunity to join them in this busy Financial Accountant role.

About the Role
Reporting to a Senior Financial Accountant who reports to the Financial Controller, the newly appointed Financial Accountant will play a pivotal role
within the Finance team, being responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, management of accounting operations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of accounting principles and standards.

Key areas of responsibility:

Accounting Operations
• Responsible for the day-to-day tasks relating to the general ledger functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations.
• Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
• Maintain and update the chart of accounts and ensure proper classification of financial transactions.

Budgeting and Forecasting
• Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, 2-5 year forecasts and periodic forecasts.
• Monitor budgetary performance and provide variance analysis to support decision-making.
• Work closely with department heads to understand their financial needs and provide financial insights.

Other Activities & Adhoc
• Prepare the required financial and interest calculations and supporting documentation to enable the subsidiaries to draw down debt facilities and pay expenses and interest.
• Work with Banks to coordinate debt draws and make payments.
• Prepare and submit financial data in pre-determined templates
• Conduct adhoc reconciliations and prepare adhoc reports as required.

About You
This role is well-suited to a recently qualified Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) with at least 3-5 years experience in accounting or finance including financial reporting, management reporting, general ledger functions, and month-end/year-end close process.

A key competency is strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards. Along with this, you will have proven ability to analyse financial data and prepare detailed reports.

An understanding or exposure to an infrastructure environment would be an advantage but is not necessary, as equally valuable will be experience in a consulting/CA firm, financial services, insurance company or another business that is a commercial or corporate environment.

More important than experience is the right attitude, a team player who is willing to help other team members.

With strong communication skills (verbal and written), you will be comfortable interacting with a range of stakeholders and enjoy teamwork.

With excellent time management and organisational skills –  you will be able to adapt in a rapidly changing environment, and not mind working in ambiguity sometimes, and always take pride meeting deadlines and producing quality work.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and other reporting tools, you will have an excellent eye for detail and ideally have used MYOB but again this is not essential.

To fit well with this humorous, close-knit, and highly engaged Finance team, you will be genuinely motivated by working for a purpose driven company, that is empathetic, collegial, highly collaborative, and who take great pride in their work.

With a can-do attitude, you will relish interacting with all levels of the company whilst working in a high-performing team, that enjoys friendly team banter and the flexibility and autonomy they have, being a highly trusted, empowered team.
