We’re on the lookout for a sharp and proactive Financial Accountant to join a construction company. This role offers genuine scope, visibility across the business, and the chance to step into a leadership role with influence.

About the role:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll lead two direct reports (AP, AR, and Payroll), manage the full financial cycle, and take ownership of day-to-day financial operations, month-end reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and board reporting.

While 70–80% of the role is operational, you’ll also contribute to business case analysis and strategic insightand have regular exposure to senior leadership and board meetings.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting (P&L, balance sheet, cashflow)
  • Overseeing transactional finance across AP, AR, payroll, and bank reconciliations
  • Delivering budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Providing financial insight and recommendations to support business decisions
  • Supporting the board, external accountant, and internal stakeholders
  • Continually improving reporting, systems (Deltek ERP), and financial processes

What you’ll bring:

  • CA/CPA qualified, with 4+ years post-qualification experience
  • Strong understanding of NZ accounting and tax standards
  • Experience with ERP systems (Deltek ideal, but others like NetSuite, Sage, etc. are welcome)
  • Solid Excel skills – pivot tables, Power Query, and Power BI
  • Collaborative, commercially minded, and confident speaking with senior stakeholders
