Ngāi Tahu Tourism and New Zealand Rugby as a joint venture opened The All-Blacks Experience in 2020 - this inspiring, yet emotional attraction touches the hearts of those who have experienced it. Having successfully navigated the challenges of low tourist numbers due to the pandemic, the All Blacks Experience is now positioned to grow even further as one of Auckland's "must see" visitor experiences. Located in the SkyCity Auckland entertainment precinct, it is a guided showcase of the All Blacks and all our national teams in black. This is a unique tourism experience where our visitors get to feel the pride, the anticipation and excitement of international rugby, from kick off to the final whistle, whilst following a players' journey from club rugby to pulling on the black jersey for the first time.
We're on the hunt for an innovative, commercial and experienced General Manager to further grow this attraction. You will lead our experienced kaimahi (staff) of both retail and guiding professionals to deliver an exceptional experience to our manuhiri (visitors). Not only will you be expected to work with internal stakeholders, but you will also be working with key external partners both nationally and internationally. About you:
We are we are looking for someone who has experience running a world class visitor attraction, as well as the proven ability to deliver a superior customer experience. People leadership will be the main part of your day and your success in coaching, leading and inspiring a high performing team will ensure that that we continue to share the energy. A passion for, and connectivity with rugby, as well as a proven track record of growing business revenue and staff coaching is vital - openness to learning basic te reo Māori and tikaka is also a must!
At Ngāi Tahu Tourism Manaakitaka (hospitality) is one of our core values, it drives the way we do business, and we're looking for someone who will care for our kaimahi and manuhiri as if they were their own whānau (family).
What we need from you
Our successful applicant will ideally have the following:
- Proven strategic leadership experience
- The ability to develop and drive business results to align with organisational goals
- Previous experience with leading a diverse and multitalented team of individuals
- Excellent understanding of the key drivers of tourism revenue and leading the budgeting and forecasting process
- Demonstrated ability to interact at a board and senior management level. Willingness to engage directly with manuhiri, kaimahi and other tourism business ventures within the Ngāi Tahu Tourism portfolio
- Sound communication skills (written and verbal), passion for delivering results
- A strong affinity and passion, if not direct rugby experience and connectivity
- Ability to leverage research data, trend analysis, and insights to pinpoint significant growth opportunities
- Ability to foster a positive team environment to cultivate unity and shared purpose
- An understanding of bricks and mortar retail would be beneficial but not essential
- Demonstrate a hands-on approach, being actively engaged in all facets of the business from Strategic direction through to guiding to even assisting on reception when needed
- Be highly adept at building and managing relationships and establishing networks with key partners to drive collaboration and growth
The successful applicant will have an understanding of, or an eagerness to learn and engage with, Kāi Tahu values and te reo Māori.
