General Manager – Taupo Hospital

Permanent, part-time (0.8 FTE/64 hours per fortnight)

Monday to Friday

Based in Taupō Hospital

 

An exciting opportunity has become available to work as the General Manager in Taupō Hospital to join our passionate and multi-disciplinary team at Health New Zealand Lakes (Rotorua & Taupō Hospitals).

About the Role

  • The role reports to the Group Director Operation at Rotorua Hospital 
  • The role will fill vital links with the local community and other government agencies
  • Lakes District operates a one hospital – two-site model with Taupō Hospital having both resident staff and a wide range of visiting clinicians – principally doctors and allied health staff.
  • With 15 inpatient beds and a busy ED seeing 19,000 patients, there is a strong focus on meeting the needs of the local population of more than 40,000. In addition, there are strong community based mental health services, 19 outpatient rooms, CT and plain film services, echocardiography, a primary birthing unit, and oral health services.
  • In addition to providing a local presence, supporting staff and driving the integration of services within Taupō, the role will support on-site development, delivery and change management of new initiatives in Taupō.
  • While a clinical background is valuable but not essential, a background in health service management is critical as is the ability to work in both staff and line management.

About you

You should have

  • Tertiary qualifications in management or health-related field
  • Operational management exposure (ideally in a health environment)
  • A strong focus on performance and personal accountability
  • Strong financial, budgetary and performance management skills
  • Proven leadership skills in a relevant setting
  • Resilience, and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • A strong commitment to customer service, quality improvement, risk management.
  • A strong commitment to Māori health and equity of outcomes
  • A collaborative style with good networking and team-building skills
  • High agility and change management skills
  • The ability to form and maintain appropriate and effective relationships with medical staff, community and iwi.
