Now is an exhilarating time to be part of Toitū Te Whenua, Land Information New Zealand, as we embark on a major digital transformation to develop truly data-centric systems that support emerging international hydrographic standards and technologies. This ambitious programme aligns with the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) ‘S-100 Implementation Decade' and will revolutionise how we deliver navigational products for the digital future. We are excited to offer a new entry-level opportunity within our Charting Squad for a motivated individual with a passion for data, digital systems, and technology.
About the Role
Depending on your experience, you will contribute to both our established business-as-usual data systems and our transformational programme. You will enhance your technical capabilities while helping to run and maintain the digital systems and platforms that support New Zealand's navigational chart portfolios. This includes the supply of data to customers via the LINZ Data Service, NZ ENC Service, and the Online Chart Catalogue. You will also have the opportunity to drive innovation by implementing process improvements and automation using your scripting, and AI skills. With a strong customer-centric approach, you will engage directly with stakeholders to ensure our hydrographic systems and services are fit for purpose—today and into the future.

He pūkenga tou – Skills & Experience
- Strong digital and technical skills with an ability to work across various systems and platforms.
- Familiarity with GIS principles, geospatial technologies, and data structures.
- Proficiency in Python or a similar language for scripting, automation, and data validation.
- A strong commitment to quality control and continuous improvement.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, apply AI tools effectively, and build strong relationships with stakeholders and contractors.
- A passion for technical advancements and eagerness to learn from our team of hydrographic and nautical charting experts.
- Awareness of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and its standards (advantageous but by no means essential).
Depending on skills and experience the expected annual salary range for this role is between $77,000 to $86,000.
