Group Manager Hauora Funding - Hauora Māori Service

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Based in Wellington/Auckland

About the Role

The Group Manager for Hauora Funding will lead the development and implementation of the national funding strategy for the Hauora Māori appropriation.  This role also leads a team focused on national funding priorities as well as monitoring and evaluating contracts and services that will contribute to improved Māori health outcomes.  The role works with Regional Group Managers for Funding and Planning to ensure the effective commissioning, procurement, contract management, and monitoring of providers.

About the Team/Service/ Location

As the Hauora Māori Service of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) our core role is to ensure New Zealanders have better and more timely access to health care.  The devolution of resources and decision making to the regions ensures those closest to service users and whānau are involved in decisions on how healthcare is delivered. We are committed to ensuring our operating model is responsive to the needs of Māori. 

About you

You are a strategic thinker and collaborative leader with proven experience in overseeing funding and/or planning functions within large, complex organisations. A confident and articulate communicator, you excel at engaging with and sustaining relationships across diverse stakeholder groups. You deeply value diversity and its role in shaping inclusive, effective solutions—particularly within a Māori cultural context—demonstrating strong cultural competence in tikanga, te reo Māori, and kawa.

You will have:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience, including leadership experience at a senior level
  • Strong understanding of the Pae Ora Act, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and relevant health legislation
  • Experience in leading significant programmes of work from development to implementation
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects, with experience in the health sector considered an advantage
