Health and Safety Business Partner - Christchurch

We are looking for a full-time Health and Safety Business Partner to join our team, supporting our regional operations and technical disciplines across the Tonkin + Taylor Group.
In this role, you'll be a trusted advisor and strategic partner, working closely with leaders and teams to embed a proactive and positive health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) culture. You'll also collaborate with our national H&S team to drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with statutory, industry and client-specific requirements. You'll be naturally curious, approachable, and bring true care into your work. The ideal candidate will be a people-person with a knack for building relationships.

A requirement of this role is to travel between Christchurch and Nelson on a regular basis to continue fostering strong relationships amongst our teams. This could mean fortnightly travel, but we want to be flexible for the right candidate.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders and teams on health, safety and wellbeing, ensuring HSW requirements are built into project planning and delivery
- Develop and maintain HSW systems, procedures and risk assessments
- Lead incident investigations, manage corrective actions and support the incident management process
- Mentor and support Health & Safety Representatives, Location Representatives and Wellbeing Champions
- Oversee contractor and supplier HSW pre-qualification and performance monitoring
- Support injury management and return-to-work programmes in collaboration with our Occ Health and Wellbeing team
- Conduct audits and inspections, identifying and supporting improvement opportunities
- Monitor legislative changes and support WorkSafe liaison when required
Nā tōu rourou | What you'll bring
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role, ideally in construction, environmental or engineering sectors
- Strong knowledge of NZ/Australian HSW legislation, Codes of Practice, and ISO45001
- ICAM investigation and audit training and experience
- Competent in risk assessment, including Bowtie methodology
- Experience with Just Culture or Human and Organisational Performance (HOP)
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organisation
- Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- A mindset focused on education, empowerment and continuous improvement
- Full NZ driver's licence
