Our client is looking for experienced Health and Safety Contractor – Compliance Audit to work at various locations in New Zealand.
Role Overview
You’ll independently conduct health and safety compliance audits across different facilities in NZ. You will assess adherence to local regulations (e.g., HSWA), internal safety standards, and industry best practices. Your findings will guide corrective action plans and support continuous safety improvements.
Key Responsibilities

Audit Planning & Delivery

Collaborate with site health and safety leaders to plan audit schedules and priorities

Develop audit checklists and tools aligned with HSWA, AS/NZS standards, and SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) framework

On‑site Auditing

Visit processing plants, farms, depots, and transport hubs

Inspect risk‑critical systems: plant guards, chemical handling, confined spaces, ergonomic setups, contractor management, PPE provisioning, fatigue controls, etc.

Interview site staff and leaders to assess culture and procedure awareness

Reporting & Follow‑up

Deliver clear, evidence‑based audit reports (immediate findings and summary)

Prioritise observations (e.g., risk-based categories: minor, moderate, high, critical)

Work with site teams to produce and monitor corrective action plans

Track implementation and close‑out

Continuous Improvement
-
Identify trends across various sites and recommend improvements
-
Contribute to workshops, training, and coaching sessions
-
Review and enhance audit frameworks, tools, and guidance

Qualifications & Experience
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience in H&S auditing or consulting (ideally in food processing, manufacturing, or primary industry)

Strong knowledge of HSWA, HSW regulation, AS/NZS standards
-
Auditing certification desired (e.g., IRCA registered, ISO 45001 auditor)

Demonstrated success in driving corrective action and enduring H&S initiatives

Excellent communication skills—capable of engaging at all levels, including site leadership

Ability to compile robust audit notes within tight turnaround times
-
Flexibility to travel regularly across New Zealand
