Job Description
Our client is seeking a seasoned Health and Safety Manager to take the lead in shaping and advancing their nationwide health and safety program. This is a permanent position suited to someone who’s passionate about Health & Safety leadership and experienced in operationalising an effective safety management system across a multisite business.
About the Role
As the internal subject matter expert, you will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the health and safety program. Your focus will be on aligning systems, processes, technologies, and people to ensure consistent and reliable risk controls are embedded across all aspects of the business and all locations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the strategic direction of the organisations Health & Safety program.
- Providing expert guidance and support to the business to enable them to manage health and safety risks effectively
- Managing the ACC Accredited Employer Program (AEP).
- Managing and mentoring a H&S Advisor – providing leadership, oversight, and professional development to improve frontline support for health and safety.
- Monitoring and reporting on health and safety performance and initiatives to aid in decision-making and the continuous drive for improvement
- Some travel will be required
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- To be a specialist in Health & Safety Management with a tertiary qualification and certification as a registered safety professional.
- Proven experience leading H&S programs in large, multisite organisations.
- Demonstrated expertise in administering theACC Accredited Employer Program (AEP), ideally within similarly scaled businesses.
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand H&S regulations and best practice guidance; confident in interactions withWorkSafe.
- Ideally have previous experience working in frontline H&S roles in private sector industries such as transportation, manufacturing, or heavy engineering.
- Highly developed soft skills, including relationship-building, influencing, two-way communication, and conflict resolution.
- Comfortable advising and collaborating with senior leaders and executive teams.
