About the role
We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our team. In this role, you - ll make a real difference by supporting patients in their health journey, carrying out clinical procedures, providing education, and assisting with administrative tasks to help deliver exceptional care.
This is a rewarding position where no two days are the same. You - ll be part of a supportive clinical team, helping patients live healthier lives while also contributing to the smooth operation of the practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Educate and support patients with health promotion.
- Act as a clinical chaperone.
- Collect lifestyle data (e.g., smoking status, alcohol consumption, exercise).
- Assist with personal cares under clinical direction.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records.
- Report any changes or concerns regarding patient wellbeing.
- Administrative Duties:
- Manage recall processes and health documentation.
- Restock clinical areas and maintain treatment rooms.
- Contact patients to arrange appointments and provide information.
- Update patient data in the clinical system.
- Support general administrative needs of the clinical team.
- Communication:
- Provide sensitive, patient-centered communication.
- Liaise effectively with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure strict patient confidentiality at all times.
About You:
Essential:
- NCEA Level 2-3 (or equivalent) with passes in English and Maths.
- Experience working with the general public, ideally in a service or healthcare setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Strong initiative and the ability to work well under pressure.
- A strong team player who is highly organized and accountable.
- Committed to maintaining patient confidentiality.
Desirable:
- NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) - Health Assistant strand.
- Health, Disability & Aged Support (Level 3).
- Pre-health and Science (Level 3).
- Previous healthcare experience (hospitals, nursing homes, primary care).
- Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi principles.
- Administration experience and computer literacy.
