Nau mai, Haere mai - the Health Protection team are recruiting for a Health Protection Officer or Trainee to join our diverse team.
Show us how you implement your pae ora knowledge to a variety of health protection programme areas including enteric communicable diseases and environmental health issues.
This is a varied and exciting role where you can use your inquisitive mind and investigative skills to prevent the spread of enteric communicable diseases and protect whanau from harmful environmental exposures. In this role you will promote the health and wellbeing of all people in the Greater Wellington Region through the provision of a wide range of high quality public health activities. This is an opportunity to - make a difference - by using mana-enhancing and values based approaches to public health issues.
The position involves the provision of public health regulatory and disease control services in the greater Wellington region in a variety of settings. It includes regulatory activities related to, but not limited to, smokefree, psychoactive substances, alcohol and early childhood centres located in Health Promotion Cluster.
Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
You will work closely with other team members to ensure the delivery of public health regulatory services for the achievement of public health outcomes. At times the position may involve taking on wider responsibilities with respect to the service as a whole or part thereof. NPHS/Te Whatu Ora maintains a policy of ensuring Health Protection Officers (HPO) retain broad skill base and secondment to other teams may be required.
We are an emergency response organisation and as such, all staff are required to be available 24/7 if the organisation is responding to an emergency. Examples are a pandemic, severe earthquake or flood and a hazardous substances event. This is particularly so for Health Protection Officers who are often at the forefront of an emergency response. As a a designated HPO you will also be part of the rostered on-call.
Moū - About you
We are seeking an outgoing, enthusiastic, self-motivated person to join our Health Protection Team. We are looking for someone capable of combining health protection and health promotion skills to enhance the work the team does within the Greater Wellington Region.
The successful applicant will be a good team player and self starter and be confident in working with the team and the communities we serve.
You also need to have a current New Zealand driver - s license.
