Job Description

About the role:

This is a rare opportunity to step into a standalone HSW leadership role where you’ll shape, build and grow the function. Reporting to the People & Capability Manager and working closely with the ELT, you’ll drive both the strategic direction and day-to-day delivery of health, safety and wellbeing across a high-risk, fast-moving operational business. With growth ahead, there’s also scope to develop a team around you as the function evolves.

Day to day you will:

  • Develop and embed a national HSW strategy that drives cultural and behavioral change
  • Lead incident investigations, ICAM reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Partner with SLT, Operations and People & Capability to deliver safe outcomes
  • Lead critical risk management, safety systems, audits and compliance programmes
  • Use Safe365 and data analytics to monitor, report and present Board-level updates
  • Coach and build capability across leaders, managers and frontline teams
  • Oversee injury management, wellbeing programmes and ACC engagement
  • Be visible and hands-on across operational sites, building trust in Toolbox meetings

What you will bring:
You’re proactive, influential and confident engaging at all levels of the business from field crews to boardrooms. You bring strong experience in high-risk, operational environments (roading, utilities, infrastructure highly desirable), with a proven ability to embed safety culture, lift capability, and drive behavioral change. ICAM investigation experience, strong data/reporting skills (ideally with Safe365) and knowledge of NZ Health & Safety legislation are essential. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone ready to step into a career-defining role and grow alongside the business.
