The opportunity:
Kidz First Children’s Hospital based at Middlemore has an exciting role available for a Play Specialist. Play Specialists provide the opportunity for children and young people to grow and develop in the unfamiliar environment of a hospital. We are looking for someone who has experience working with children/young people within a diverse community.
The role involves maintaining normal developmental goals and assisting children and young people in coping with hospitalisation and illness. Flexibility, a sense of humour, organisational skills and effective open communication skills are key requirements.
The successful candidate should have experience working in early childhood settings and hold a minimum three-year tertiary qualification in education such as a B.Ed or B.Tchg (ECE or Primary teaching) and a current full or provisional Teachers Council Practicing Certificate. Qualifications in special education/early intervention would be an advantage.
This is a part time, 6 months fixed term position, working 20 hours a week, Monday – Friday.
Essential:
- Relevant experience working in an early childhood/primary school setting
- B.Ed or B.Tchg (ECE or Primary teaching) degree and current teacher registration or registration with HPSAANZ
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Can demonstrate ability to provide appropriate play programmes for children of mixed aged groups
- Demonstrate an ability to be able to work as part of a diverse team
- Has worked within multi-cultural communities
