Job Description

Are you a calm, authentic and forward-thinking HR professional ready to take ownership of a full-scope HR function with some support offshore? Our client, a global manufacturing business with a strong presence in New Zealand, is looking for an experienced HR Manager to lead and shape the people function for their NZ operation.
Based in Albany and reporting to the CEO, this is a sole charge role supporting a workforce of 220. You’ll be a key member of the SLT, contributing to strategic discussions, acting as a key trusted business partner, and ensuring people initiatives align with business goals. The CEO and SLT are passionate about the business and its workforce are engaged. The business is innovative, a market leader, and continues to grow even when the New Zealand economy is sluggish.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working closely with all levels of the business to provide best practice HR advice
  • Providing trusted ER guidance and coaching to leaders across the business
  • Leading and coordinating core HR processes, including performance reviews and annual cycles
  • Analysing HR data to provide insights and influence decision-making
  • Developing and maintaining HR policies, systems, and processes
  • Championing a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
  • Collective bargaining and union negotiations
What we’re looking for:
You’ll bring proven experience in HR management and business partnering, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial setting. Experience managing ER issues and ideally experience in IR and negotiating with Unions will ensure the day to day runs efficiently.
You’re confident operating autonomously, a great relationship builder, and someone who thrives in a practical, hands-on environment. An innovation mindset and drive to improve ways of working will set you apart as will a commercial bent and enthusiasm to understand the business financial measures.
Technologically savvy, you will be comfortable managing the HRIS and new technology when this is introduced.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take full ownership of the HR function, influence at SLT level, and partner with an engaged leadership team in a business that values its people.
Please note this role is based in the Albany office 5 days per week, but offers the flexibility to start early/finish early etc.
