Job Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

About us

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko is an independent Crown entity that regulates the electricity market. We are a kaitiaki of electricity, and our purpose is to enhance New Zealanders' lives, prosperity, and environment through electricity.

The electricity industry is at a pivotal moment, with the journey towards renewable energy sources and innovation reshaping how we operate. To meet these challenges and opportunities, we're evolving as an organisation - growing our capabilities, expanding our reach, and building a team ready to create a brighter, more sustainable future for Aotearoa. Our focus is on making a difference through bold thinking, collaboration, and delivering value for the communities we serve.

About the role

If you thrive on turning security strategy into action, collaborating with a range of stakeholders, and staying ahead of emerging threats, we want to hear from you.

This newly created Information Security Lead role sits within our Corporate and Market Services Group, reporting to the Manager - Risk and Information Services and CISO. You'll lead the strategic development and continuous improvement of the Authority's cybersecurity controls, designing and deploying security architectures and controls to safeguard our digital platforms. You'll oversee our SIEM system for real time threat detection and response, manage end-to-end incident response processes and drive our vulnerability management programme. You'll also embed security best practices across projects, ensure NZISM compliance, and develop business continuity and disaster recovery plans to keep us resilient.

Our ideal candidate

You'll bring experience leading enterprise‑wide cybersecurity initiatives, ideally within critical‑infrastructure or the electricity sector, and a strong track record designing security architectures. You'll be well‑versed in SIEM management, incident response, risk assessments, and NZISM compliance. A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience is essential. You're a clear communicator who can explain complex security concepts to varied audiences - from our Board to external partners - and build positive relationships. You're organised, methodical, and pay close attention to detail, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and work autonomously. Above all, you're proactive, curious about new technologies, and committed to embedding a culture of security across the organisation.

Why work with us?

Electricity plays a critical role in the quality of our lives and businesses. As an electricity kaitiaki our work is diverse, intellectually challenging and contributes to our communities, economy, environment, and the nation as a whole. We are a small but high-impact organisation where talented individuals can make a real difference. We foster an open, collaborative environment that encourages quality, innovation, ongoing learning, and knowledge sharing.

We support a healthy work-life balance and offer a range of benefits to support our teams:

  • Competitive remuneration from $110,000 based on your skills and experience, plus a 3% net KiwiSaver contribution
  • Flexible working options
  • Health, wellbeing, and social initiatives, including allowances, Habit Health+ EAP services for you and your whānau, and regular team events
