Shape the Systems That Power New Zealand's Digital Memory

E ngā mana, e ngā reo, e ngā karangatanga maha o ngā hau e whā, nau mai, haere mai.
Greetings to the many authorities, voices, and experts of the world.

Archives New Zealand and the National Library are home to some of the nation's most important taonga - but without robust infrastructure, that knowledge can't be kept safe, accessible, or secure. As our next Infrastructure Specialist, you'll take the lead on making sure our digital delivery systems are strong, resilient, and future-ready.

In this role, you'll lead key infrastructure initiatives, uplift our security and observability practices, and work across multiple digital platforms to support our online systems. You'll also collaborate closely with other teams to embed secure, high-performing hosting and delivery solutions, while driving improvements that make our services even better for users.

This role sits at the intersection of technology leadership and hands-on platform management, offering the chance to make a direct impact in a nationally significant digital environment.

What we're looking for

We're seeking a confident infrastructure and systems specialist with:

  • Proven experience in digital infrastructure systems management, including product and platform lifecycle oversight
  • Strong working knowledge of networking, firewalls, observability tooling, and secure infrastructure design
  • Experience leading improvements across infrastructure product backlogs, and aligning delivery with digital strategy
  • Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices, and an understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Excellent relationship management and vendor coordination skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with high-volume delivery systems
  • Strong systems data analysis skills
  • An understanding of archival practices is a bonus, but not essential
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to work effectively with Māori

You'll be the kind of person who thrives on solving complex problems, enjoys leading technical change, and understands how good systems design supports better user outcomes.
