Job Description
Geotechnics Ltd is a specialist testing company supporting New Zealand's civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineering industries. With offices across the country—including Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and more—we're at the forefront of shaping Aotearoa's infrastructure.
Cirro is our specialist Instrumentation & Monitoring division within Geotechnics and we are seeking people with a keen interest in IoT applications, electronics and/or software (or even all 3!) to join our Tauranga team!
We're looking for someone who's passionate about creating smart, reliable IoT solutions that make a real difference. In this role, you'll lead the integration of new hardware into our growing monitoring platform, contribute to the development of custom IoT and instrumentation solutions, and help evolve both the front and back end of our platform.
You'll bring a strong understanding of communication protocols (e.g. MQTT, Modbus etc) a practical developer mindset, and experience with monitoring systems in the field. You'll work closely with our team to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that connect the physical world to our intuitive platform, ensuring clients can trust the data they rely on.
Not sure if you tick every box?
That's okay - we're still growing and developing the role as we go. If you bring some of the skills we've mentioned and are excited by what we're building, we'd love to hear from you. We're a new and evolving team, and we're open to shaping the role around the right person.
An ideal candidate will be able to do some or all of these things. Please reach out if you think you fulfil some of the below
- Architect and implement full-stack IoT systems including hardware, embedded software, and network infrastructure
- Develop and debug device firmware and software with industrial communication protocols (MQTT, Modbus, HTTP, TCP/IP, FTP)
- Deploy and configure sensors, microcontrollers, and wireless networks (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa, SIGFOX, NB-IoT, CAT-M1)
- Contribute to frontend/backend development of Cirro's digital platforms and integration workflows
- Diagnose and maintain IoT hardware, ensuring system reliability and data integrity
- Willingness to support occasional fieldwork for R&D and equipment deployment
- Prepare detailed documentation and communicate progress to cross-functional stakeholders
- Mentor IoT Technicians and collaborate remotely with development teams across NZ
- Excellent problem-solving, planning, and communication skills
Why Geotechnics? Here's what you can look forward to:
- A social club and team events
- A $750 annual well-being allowance because your health matters
- Mobile phone plan to support you on the job
- Access to mentoring, professional development, and study support
- A workplace where innovation, ideas, and initiative are celebrated
