Mō te tūnga | About the role
This is an exciting time to be part of Oranga Tamariki. The IT security team is assisting the business and technology transformation programmes that will help us to deliver our objectives.
The IT security team is part of the broader Tech and Channels assurance team and is responsible for providing the business with assurance that the security risks associated with its use of both information and technology are effectively managed. You will be also responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of the Ministry's security controls, as well as responding to security incidents and events, with support from our managed security service providers.
In addition to this, there is currently an inflight programme of work to further uplift in-house security capabilities with the support of a managed security services provider. As the IT Security Manager, you will provide oversight to the implementation and uplift of these capabilities, and ensure they meet the objectives of Oranga Tamariki.
You will be heading up this team and expanding its vision and capability. This is a rare opportunity to get in virtually on the ground floor, using your drive, innovation and professional expertise, working closely with project and delivery staff, stakeholders and service providers.
For this role, you will have a broad range of experience covering several information security domains and you will be able to effectively communicate, consult and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to ensure that the security objectives of Oranga Tamariki are met. In addition, you will have excellent people management, team building and stakeholder management skills.
Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring
You are a self-motivated, outcome orientated, team player and people manager with demonstratable team leading experience, problem-solving and relationship building skills. Also, you will have proven experience of some of the following:
- Significant experience as an IT Security Manager, working in large and complex organisations, ideally government
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
- Relevant industry security certifications such as CISSP, CSSP, CISM, CISA, Azure/AWS security certifications
- A proven understanding of and experience in:
- IT security management and frameworks, (e.g., NZISM, PSR, ISO 27001, SABSA, NIST CSF, SABSA etc.)
- ICT assurance practices, (e.g., controls auditing, Certification & Accreditation, Continuous Security Assurance) including the All of Government ICT Assurance guidelines and policies
- Cloud computing, especially modern commodity cloud environments such as AWS, Azure and Salesforce
- Risk management practices, frameworks and standards (e.g., Security Risk Assessment, Risk Reporting)
- Proven people management experience
- Strong vendor management experience
- Ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with different stakeholders
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Critical thinking & Problem-solving
- Work prioritisation and planning, including capability building
- Operational IT security assurance, process development and continuous improvement
- Cloud security architecture
- Cloud computing (especially large cloud environments such as Microsoft 365, Azure, Amazon Web Services, Salesforce)
- Cloud migration, cross-cloud integration and cloud-legacy integration
Additional qualities that are desirable for this role
- Ability to work from home
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
