Mō tēnei tūrangi mahi | About this role
The communications team is responsible for building and protecting the reputation of the Ministry, to support its role as stewards of the environmental management system.
The team advises on and delivers all external and internal proactive and reactive communications for the Ministry, including land management, freshwater, oceans, climate change, waste and biodiversity.
The team also supports Ministerial-led communications and works closely with other agencies to ensure alignment of messaging and approaches for key work programmes across government.
This role is responsible for taking a lead role with the Ministry's social media channels and media monitoring. The role will also provide communications support across some key environmental portfolios of the Ministry.
We are looking for a person with strong communication and social media skills, who is both a team player and a self-starter, and is keen to build their skills in a range of communications disciplines.

- have strong time and workflow skills
- have some experience working in a communications specialist role
- have experience maintaining social media channels and their delivery tools in a work environment
- are a natural storyteller who can share perspectives across our channels
- have political acumen and a nose for risk and opportunity
- understand how to write and pitch a great story
- can build trusted relationships at all levels of an organisation and externally
- are happy rolling your sleeves up and getting involved where you are needed
- are a multi-tasker who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- have a broad-based understanding of Māori values and knowledge including the contextual background.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $79,598 to $96,372pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
