We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join the Projects Team. 

The Projects team provides professional project management services across the Ministry by:

  • Supporting the planning and management of complex projects to ensure successful delivery, including mapping and meeting core milestones and deliverables.
  • Supporting the building of project management capability in others e.g. Principals, Seniors and Analysts/Advisors who are expected to lead projects of varying complexity.

The role is through to 30 June 2026 and will be supporting complex, cross-agency initiatives in the Climate Change Mitigation and Resource Efficiency business group.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience


  • 5+ years demonstratable strength and success in planning, managing and delivering complex | higher risk policy projects, using a range of industry recognised project management methodologies and techniques including Agile. 
  • Skilled in providing high value enabling services to a range of projects e.g. virtual and in-person collaborative workshop facilitation to solve complex problems. 
  • Strong ability to apply systematic and innovative approaches to complex issues and management of projects, prioritising effort to successfully deliver ministerial and organisational priorities aligned to our strategic direction.
  • Experienced in coaching other non-technical roles in project management. 
  • Skilled in getting the best out of people under pressure with highly effective relationship building skills including with cross agency and MfE delivery teams, senior leaders, steering groups and governance. Experience working with industry stakeholders would be an advantage.

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range

Salary range for this role is $140,222 to $170,467 pa.  Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
