Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the team
The Research, Analysis and Intelligence (RAI) team purpose is to provide analytical expertise to generate and share insights that support and guide Maritime NZ harm prevention and regulatory decision making. RAI leads intelligence and research programmes, data and analytics, and geospatial capability providing data analysis and strategic, operational and tactical intelligence assessments and products. We innovate; experiment with new products and data to continuously improve our support to MNZ.
Te tūnga | The role
Reporting to the General Manager (RAI), you will have opportunity to lead a team passionate about building and developing Maritime New Zealand's regulatory intelligence system and capabilities. You will be a collaborative, people-focused leader who will champion the immense value of GIS technical expertise and data analytics in supporting an intelligence-led and risk focused approach to decision making.
As part of the Research, Analysis and Intelligence (RAI) Leadership Team you will enjoy working collaboratively with other leaders within Organisational Strategy and Systems our wider Maritime New Zealand teams. You will be a confident communicator who thrives in leading teams in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
What we're looking for:
- Proven success as a Leader in data and analytics, intelligence and geospatial disciplines;
- In depth experience working in a regulatory, compliance and/or response environment involving geospatial and/or data analytics work;
- Proven technical expertise and knowledge of data analytics and GIS methodologies, tools, modelling and programming;
- Effective data leadership experience with a commitment to ensuring robust data governance and stewardship;
- Proven ability to engage others in a vision and lead and develop technical teams;
- Proven track record of leading and developing highly motivated and engaged teams through the creation of a safe trusting and enabling culture;
- The ability to network effectively in a consultative and collaborative manner, influencing and building credibility across a range of stakeholders both internal and external;
- A demonstrated understanding of how to use data and insights to target regulatory activities, make improvements and to manage risks;
- Ability to work in a culturally safe and respectful manner, always being mindful of the cultural diversity of the industry and having regard to Te Ao Māori and Treaty of Waitangi principles;
- Ability to obtain and maintain a national security clearance.

Appointing range for this role $140,735 - $171,945 depending on skills and experience.
