About the Role

The New Zealand Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Service (NZFGCS) is national service and is part of the Health New Zealand| Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) National Bowel Screening Programme (NBSP) strategy; providing assessment, diagnosis, clinical management advice and long-term care for those individuals and families who have a familial predisposition to gastrointestinal cancers. The national office is based in Auckland hosted by Te Toka Tumai with other offices in Wellington and Christchurch.

As the Medical Advisor, you will be responsible for providing expert clinical input into the assessment of and management of families suspected to have a rare familial gastrointestinal polyp/cancer syndrome.

Additionally, you will be responsible for promoting the service by supporting Specialists, General Practitioners and Allied Health Professions as well as contributing to the national service meetings and clinical guidelines.

About the Team/Service

Our multidisciplinary clinical team of Family History Assessors, Gastroenterologists and Colorectal Surgeons identify, diagnose, assess and manage people with familial gastrointestinal (GI) cancer syndromes. The team also provides education, information and support to families, including medical management advice and a colonoscopy surveillance referral programme.

About you

You must be a Consultant Gastroenterologist, registered with the New Zealand Medical Council. Significant clinical expertise in managing familial gastrointestinal cancer syndromes in New Zealand is required.
