About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated, qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist to work Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 6pm in our Dissection team. This is a fixed term contract to cover parental leave 11 August 2025 to 7 August 2026.

About Us

Waitematā District Surgical Pathology Unit provides the histology and cytology services to both North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals as well as providing pathology services to BreastScreen Waitemata Northland and BreastScreen Auckland Central. Our IANZ accredited, well equipped laboratory processes approximately 56,000 specimens from 30,000 patients per year from a wide range of specialities. Our cytology service includes rapid on-site examination (ROSE) at multiple clinics within North Shore Hospital and a high number of procedures performed in radiology. Our histology service includes routine histological preparations, special stains, immunohistochemistry and frozen sections. 

About you

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Experience performing dissection on small to medium specimens and tissue transfers
  • Experience assisting pathologists with frozen sections, tissue banking and submitting specimens for additional analytical testing.
  • Current Annual Practising Certificate from the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Flexibility to suit service demands
  • Experience with laboratory based computer systems
  • Committed to patient quality care
  • Demonstrate ethical and moral attitudes and have respect for patient confidentiality and cultural diversity
  • Ability to perform routine histology tasks will be an advantage

The tasks are performed under supervision of pathologists and the Section Lead Dissection.
