  • Medical Laboratory Scientist – Microbiology
  • Permanent, part time role (0.8 FTE, 64 hours per fortnight)

Te Whatu Ora - Waitematā District is committed to providing best care for everyone, with continuing excellence in healthcare.

Our laboratory operates a 24/7 service across both North Shore Hospital and Waitākere Hospital.

We are looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Microbiology team on a permanent, part time basis, working 64 hours per fortnight.

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A current annual practising certificate and registration with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council, or eligibility to register with the Council.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • 2-5 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a hospital-based microbiology setting.
  • Experience or knowledge in culture interpretation.
  • Experience, knowledge, or qualification in molecular testing.
  • Experience, knowledge, or qualification in biochemistry.

The successful candidate must be willing to train and work in both Biochemistry and Microbiology. Participation in a 24/7 multiskilled (Biochemistry and Microbiology) roster is a requirement, once training is completed.

You will need to be a team player, well organised and able to manage the demands of competing priorities in a busy hospital laboratory environment.
