About the Role
Join the Laboratory team at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Taranaki and play a key role in delivering high-quality diagnostic testing services across biochemistry, blood bank, haematology, and microbiology. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you’ll contribute to a variety of disciplines including Point of Care Testing, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Specimen Services. Our laboratory operates Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, with weekend and out-of-hours shifts to ensure 24/7 service delivery. About the Service
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Taranaki employs approximately 350 allied health professionals across its services, and our Medical Laboratory team is a vital part of delivering timely, high-quality diagnostic services to the region. Operating 24/7, the laboratory provides essential testing in biochemistry, blood bank, haematology, and microbiology. The service also supports key areas such as Point of Care Testing, Molecular Biology, and Specimen Services. With core hours from 0800 to 1700 on weekdays and continuous coverage after hours and on weekends, the team works collaboratively to support both acute and community healthcare across Taranaki. The service is committed to innovation, accuracy, and maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

About you
The successful candidate will hold a qualification that enables registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand (MSCNZ), as well as:
- Have medical laboratory technical and scientific skills, or have an interest in this area
- Experience with phlebotomy (preferred but not essential).
- Proven ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- High level of attention to detail.
