NZ Female Pelvic Mesh Service

The New Zealand Female Pelvic Mesh Service (the Service) has been developed over a number of years and follows recommendations outlined in the Restorative Justice report; Hearing and responding to the stories of survivors of surgical mesh: Ngā kōrero a ngā mōrehu – he urupare. This report highlighted the severity of harm and the impact on the lives of those experiencing complications from surgical mesh.
This is a national service, delivered across two hubs, one in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and one in Ōtautahi (Christchurch). The Model of Care and specifications that underpin the Service, and the vision it aspires to deliver are the outcome of a 2-year consumer co-design process.
The Northern hub based at North Shore Hospital Auckland requires a full time Urology/Urogynaecology Fellow to support the Mesh multi-disciplinary team in delivering accessible, evidenced based health investigations, and treatment to women with suspected complications from mesh inserted to treat Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) or Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP).
The Fellowship incorporates female and functional urology including robotic surgery , vaginal surgery , repair of fistula and urethral diverticulum, urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. There is also a strong emphasis on urodynamics and clinical decision making.
Some key responsibilities:
· Participate in Multi-disciplinary team outpatient clinics and scheduled operating sessions. Work pattern may be spread over several sites for operating and post-operative care with the requirement to drive between sites as requested.
· On-call and unsocial hours commitment as part of Urology & Mesh roster.
· Participate in clinical research and clinical evaluation programs as may be agreed with the Clinical Director Urology & National Co-Lead.
· To contribute to the maintenance of high clinical standards of medical practice and professional conduct
· In conjunction with the National Co-Lead, Clinical Director, Operations Manager and team strive to ensure the achievement of agreed business and clinical objectives.
