About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Midwife Manager (MM) to lead our Delivery Suite providing leadership, vision and focus to this integral part of the wider women’s health service in an acute setting. You will work in close partnership with our Obstetrics and Gynaecology Medical team and undertake staff management of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Care Assistants.
The role of MM is busy and varied – the ideal candidate will be a solution focused person able to work with staff from a variety of disciplines and manage competing and conflicting demands.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage people, systems, budget and resources within a defined area to ensure that service delivery is of a high standard.
- Manage systems, processes and resource that enable staff to meet the needs of the woman/consumer/tangata whaiora in an efficient and effective manner.
- Provide clinical leadership for the multi-disciplinary team and inspire the team to provide excellent maternity and Nursing care.
- Provide professional and operational leadership to the midwifery and nursing team, developing the midwifery and nursing services and monitoring quality, including standards of practice and service standards.
- Contribute to the strategic direction for the clinical care area and the women’s health service.

Waikato Hospital Delivery Suite is a tertiary unit which has 4500 deliveries per year, both elective and emergency deliveries.

About you
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
- Experience in upholding Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
- Recent clinical leadership experience within a secondary/tertiary service.
- Proven experience in a leadership and management role including developing staff.
- Registration with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and hold a current annual practising certificate.
- An up to date portfolio providing evidence of participation in the Midwifery Council’s recertification programme.
- Achieved leadership level on the Quality and Leadership Programme and/or completed a post graduate certificate or working towards.
- At least five years post graduate clinical experience.
- Proven involvement in change management, clinical audits and quality initiatives.
