About the Role

The National Lead IPC (Medical) will co-lead the delivery of a high-quality IPC programme, reporting to the National Quality & Patient Safety Manager and working in partnership with the IPC Programme Manager and IPC Lead - Nurse. This is a non-clinical leadership role focused on strategic programme development, policy alignment, and national coordination. This role is designed for a medical professional with expertise in infectious diseases, microbiology, public health, or general medicine. You will contribute to national strategic priorities, including the development of national guidelines and positions, and engage with stakeholders across national, regional, and district levels to ensure alignment and impact. Your leadership will directly influence national IPC standards, improving patient safety and reducing healthcare-associated infections across Aotearoa

About the Team/Service/ Location

The role will work closely with other people and teams within the National Clinical Leadership team, including the Chief Quality and Patient Safety, Chief Clinical Officer, and Chief Nursing Officer. This role will also have a high level of interaction with the Regional and Local Clinical Leaders to support the implementation of work programmes, and to ensure the timely provision of information to the National Clinical Leadership Team and other groups to support decision-making.   The role will also have strong alignment and connections with the national infection services clinical network.

We welcome applications from medical professionals with the right training, skills and experience, including: 

  • Medical degree and relevant postgraduate qualifications
  • Minimum five years' experience in IPC
  • Clinical and/or advisory experience in the health sector
  • Familiarity with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or commitment to learning
  • Experience applying Te Tiriti principles and Kaupapa Māori approaches in healthcare

We will accept applications from candidates wanting part time hours, up to 0.4FTE (16 hours per week).
